I am using a new 5k 27" iMac so the drivers on either brand should be ok. Paper and OEM ink soon dwarf the start-up costs of any of these printers. Epson scan software is much more accessible than the Canon one. Look at Amazon reviews if wireless is important to you, as I don't use it and don't know which does better there. I expect no significant difference between the 2 lines. I've never done a scientific study of ink usage.

Are you using older versions of Mac or Windows-check if drivers are available. If you work in GNU/Linux, the Epsons are more compatible in my experience. The paper trays are finicky and difficult to reach for re-supply, and since I always use 3rd party inks, the constant "you aren't using Epson ink" messages get tiresome.įrom an aesthetic standpoint, I prefer Canon. In my opinion, the recent Epsons aren't built as well. The image quality is excellent for photos or text, the paper trays work well, the paper tracks well, the LCD navigation is excellent. The Epson XP-860 has the following colors ink cartridges black, cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta. The Canon MG7720 has the following ink cartridges pigment black, cyan, magenta, yellow, gray and black. They both have received really good reviews for photo printing and I am not concerned about their prices.

I have pretty much narrowed my search to the Canon MG7720 (6 ink cartridges) which prints, copies & scans and the Epson XP-860 (6 ink cartridges) which prints, copies, scans and also faxes plus it has an automatic document feeder. I will be using this printer in a home office setup so I definitely want an all in one type of printer. I recently purchased a new 5k 27" iMac and decided it is time to retire my Canon MP970 which has been a reliable workhorse for many years.
